Although it's gritty on the outside, you find it hard to believe that you are in the right place on the inside. You ae greeted with a gorgeous setting of decadency, the walls adorned with marble reliefs and gold finishings. The interior was decadent, but also odd and mismatched as if management had chosen furnishings from a multitude of generations.

You gasp to take it all in, whilst inhaling the stale air which rests underneath your nose. What was that smell?

You walk to the desk clerk who has been eyeing you from the beginning. You can't help but notice that you are the only person to be eyed down, as the rest of the lobby is completely empty. Your footsteps fill the silence with a satisfying click as you walk to the mysterious desk clerk. His name tag reads "Jamal" on a gold plate.

You were once again surprised by the tone of enthusiasm in Jamal's voice which accompanied his drab, static facial expression "Hello!". There was a pause, then Jamal resumed his script "Welcome to the Hotel Proxoxie. Check into another plane of existence." Proxoxie was pronounced as "Prox-Zee", and you thought to yourself "Wow, so that's how you say it". You stared blankly at Jamal, waiting for his next que. The emotion he wore on his face never changed, but his eyes grew hazy as if he was staring through you rather than at you. "Do you have a reservation with us today?" It was hard to believe that this man was real.

"No, I was hoping to make one." You offered Jamal the pamphlet which had been folded up in the pocket of your Michigan University Hoodie and set it down on the counter between you and him. Jamal never eased his eyes away from your face. You noticed a glimpse of desire flicker in the dim glow of his deep brown eyes but dismissed it.

"Very well". Jamal responded without another thought for the pamphlet. You foolishly took the pamphlet and folded it hastily back into your pocket. You felt foolish for considering you were special, that you had been called there by some malevolent force of nature which took form of a water-stained piece of paper.
